If you keep up with your Adventures of 2 Stooks blog history, you might remember that I was laid off about a week after we found at that we were moving to Qatar. With a background in marketing, I was no stranger to layoffs. Let this be a haunting tale of woe for any parents of kids that want to major in marketing, advertising or communications! When kids want to be a doctor or lawyer, no one ever tells them the real money and stability is in engineering! :)
After nearly a year of looking for work in Doha, in September I started a new job as Executive Director for a non-profit based in Qatar. This is an exciting change for me, having spent the last 10 years in the for-profit world. I wear many hats in this role: member services, events, finance, web and admin. The organization is just over a year old so my experience so far is quite entrepreneurial and I'm learning a ton.
As far as work-life balance, I'm still able to get my morning workout in and get dinner together at night. Kev's been quite helpful with dinner, grocery shopping and laundry. Pre-job we used to eat dinner on the couch in front of the TV (I know, I know), but now we actually enjoy sitting at the dining table occasionally to download. I'm also finding myself with a list of things I want to do in my free time and I make it through most weekends with everything still on the list. And yes, blogging is on that list, but at least I can scratch that off for now!
