Hello 2012!

After what seeming like a quick trip (but nearly 3 weeks!) home, we are back in Doha and looking forward to another year in the desert.

We flew from Doha to Dubai to London to Atlanta (hey, it was cheapest!) and ate dinner with my folks at the airport Houlihan's (bacon cheeseburgers) before boarding a flight to Houston.  We didn't originally plan to fly to Houston when we booked our trip over the summer, otherwise we would have entertained taking the Doha-Houston direct flight and saved ourselves 8+ hours of extra travel.  We detoured to H-town to get some of Kev's dental work done and caught up with friends over great Houston eats.

We spent the next week in Atlanta, catching up with my parents' new puppy, a little shopping and great walking at the Chattahoochee.  We moved Christmas dinner in Atlanta to Christmas Eve and then headed to Chattanooga and Knoxville for Christmas Day with Kev's family.  We spent the next week in Knoxville where we proceeded to suffer from a 24-hr. stomach bug that took out over 15 family members.  Fortunately we all survived!  We got to spend a lot of time with our kiddo nephews and niece as well.

We did some major eating back home and brought a few pounds home with us, but thankfully they are melting away.  Good, good eats though - from restaurants to homemade goodies.

We spent New Year's Eve with our friend Holly (who graciously watched Mr. Pico while we were away) and the Texas A&M game.  Living in the CST time zone back in Houston was always strange when it came to NYE because the TV stations never time-delayed the NYE broadcasts, so you ended up watching Dick Clark ring in the new year at 10:59pm instead of 11:59pm.  The only saving grace used to be Conan O'Brien's CST countdown.  Doha is not any easier because it's not like they break into the 4pm A&M game to let you know it's midnight in the Middle East.  I woke up fairly early the next morning and caught the end of the CNN broadcast (after 8am our time).

Anywho, we are back in action and looking forward to more adventures in 2012!
