Girls' weekend in Dubai

This past weekend I ventured with 6 girlfriends to Dubai... a quick 45 min. flight from Doha (and cheap at around $125 or less).

We first ventured over to the massive Dubai Mall and started with lunch at a great restaurant called Social House. The restaurant overlooked the Dubai Fountain, designed by the creators of the Fountains of Bellagio in Vegas, as well as the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world.

After going up to the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa we hiked around the mall a bit and saw the huge aquarium tank. We walked over to Souq Al Bahar where to everyone's joy, we wandered in Spinney's grocery store and noticed a little entry for non-Muslims that led to a pork wonderland. Fresh and frozen pork products as well as shelf stable items like Bacon Bits. Among the stranger things to find... Pop Tarts and marshmallows which I think have a gelatin with pork hoof in them. We watched a super super quick fountain show and then headed over to Souq Madinat to dine at The Meat Co. We scored an outdoor table with a view of the Burj Al Arab (the sailboat hotel).

Most of the next day was spent at the Mall of the Emirates, with more shopping and an outrageously delicious lunch at PF Chang's. You seriously don't realize how much you miss certain restaurants, even places you rarely ate at home, until you no longer have access to them. We also peeked in on Ski Dubai and tried to forget just how warm it was outside.

Impressions of Dubai? Dubai Mall and the surrounding area felt a lot like MGM in Vegas. The restaurants had incredible design and most of the floors of the mall had huge ceilings which really gave everything a surreal look. It's also like MGM in the regard that you could stay there forever and lose track of time and forget what daylight is like. Lots of free things to look at as well. Dubai also felt a lot more like Christmas in the States... all the stores were done up for the holidays, there were a few Christmas stores and I even bought an ornament at Crate & Barrel (please open in Doha!).

Enjoy the rest of the pics from my trip over at Facebook.
