Night and day

Last night we ventured out to the Corniche for a leisurely stroll.  I brought my camera along to test the night pics.  I mentioned in my last post that the dhow boats get all dolled up for night cruises, so here are a some night shots of the boats.  In the right pic you can see the Islamic Cultural Center glowing yellow in the background to the right.

This morning I ventured out to another coffee morning sponsored by Kev's company.  Today's coffee was at Katara Cultural Village, a new development with a beach featuring restaurants and locations of several cultural/arts groups.  I've been meaning to check out the area but have never really found a great excuse.

I'm sure there's a great word for what the photo on the left is, but I'll dumb it down to two gigantic bird houses, full of residents.  On the right is the mosaic'd minaret for the main mosque.

The coffee morning was held at Khan Farouk Tarab Cafe, an Egyptian restaurant.  To our delight we were treated to a variety of mezze.  This lovely lady worked tirelessly to bake the pita for the occasion.  The pinkish dip was a cream cheese of sorts with red pepper and tomatoes.  The fried patties were quite possibly the best falafel I've eaten in my life... so moist and terribly unhealthy tasting, but delicious!  The last two pics are a meat pie (left) and a flaky bread to be eaten with black and white honey (right).  Not pictured were some tasty foul medames (kind of like Middle Eastern refried beans), pickled vegetables (that could peel paint) and parsley'd tahini sauce.

I really enjoy the coffee mornings but unfortunately they're going on hiatus for the summer (ay, is it nearing summer already?).  Millie has done a great job planning these since I've been here!
